How will you follow the Dons Next Season

Were us over 30's fans lucky or unlucky to see the 80's?

There is a discussion going on at the moment on the Aberdeen message board I go on a lot.
Someone asked on Donstalk is it time to give up on the Dons after let down after let down.

Some of the younger members of the Red Army have never seen Aberdeen win anything and are fed up with winning nothing, others like myself saw the glory days of the 80's where we won a trophy almost every year. sometimes more than one in a season.

So it got us thinking, those of us who remember the glory days were we lucky to see us win all those trophies or does it just make these days all the harder to bare.

The kids know no different they have grown up seeing us fail year in year out but we went from winning cups and leagues to nothing.

I personally think I am lucky, but what do you guys think?

  1. I have been a suppoertersince the 50s saw my first game the end of the 50s. When we were going down hill again after winning the 1955 league championship We were a selling club and that kept us from falling into debt but through he years good players were sold on to balance the books. Eddie Turnbull came in got rid of a lot of dead wood and brought in his own plyers and started winning . we won the Scottish cup under Turnbull but being an ex Hibs player the chance to manage Hibs came so we had another manager the flambouyant Ally Mcleod, who won the league cup then off on a high to manage Scotland. the next manager BillyMcneil came and wewere continuing to play better but he wins were not coming, Then like Turnbull McNeils old club needed a manager so off he went. So the Dons went searching for a new manager, who came changed some facesand got a team who had a winning mentality, sound familiar think present day Manchester Utd maybe not playing well but defeat is not a word they use and grind out champion winning results. The face of football in Scotland changed when the big money guys came into try and buy championships at home and in Europe. The Bosman ruling has been a bad thing for clubs world wide as well. When transfer fees were paid the receiving club would go and spend on a player from lower leagus and the money was spread around helping all clubs balance their books.
Now only the so called big 2 in Scotland get the lions share of all money via the TV creating a bigger gap in the standard of play. The players have agents who look to line their pockets and that of their clients so the poor fan cannot afford the cost of tickets, therefore the terraces are half empty and TV controls the game kick off times.
So I think Chairmen FIFA and UEFA players need to take a reality check on whether to follow the money or start cutting their crazy life styles, getting rid of agents, what is the players union their for if they need someone to represent them in disputes. Foreign owners buying clubs just for an ego trip, then throwing money on over inflated players, they have no idea what the fans want.
One thing I would do is check where the money is coming from, has it been made legally or otherwise?
Unless something is done the rich will get stronger and the famous old clubs will fade away in a pile of debt.
What will poor blatter do then?
