Aberdeen's season in critical condition

What a difference one minute can make. Until Rory McArdle's late late equalizer against St Mirren, today's blog was going to be a rant about an underachieving Dons team.
It felt like a win, but if truth be told it really only papers over the cracks.

Aberdeen were poor upfront and the defence was a shambles at times. Especially in that crazy fifteen minute period during which St Mirren scored.
Apart from that Aberdeen never really sounded in any real danger.
Saying that it must be a kick in the teeth for St Mirren to lose the goal so late, but Aberdeen must beware in the replay as St Mirren will be looking for revenge.

I feel sorry for the Dons fans that made the trip who certainly do not have the team they deserve.

Rob Milsom sounded like he had a good game and had a few shots that troubled St Mirren.
Jamie Langfield who has been criticized somewhat harshly in my opinion by a number of fans on the forums this week kept us in the game and he earned the replay just as much as McArdle did.
I am still waiting for Nick Blackman to show us what he brings to the team.

The replay is this Wednesday, and there must be a winner.
Will Aberdeen keep their season alive?
Which Aberdeen team will show up?

  1. Aberdeen played disappointing but it wasnt very bad. I have never moaned at jamie langfield because he is a top keeper and we saw that today. I think the team will be very determined on wednesday and i can see them winning by a couple of goals but st mirren will be yp for revenge.

  2. Need an early goal to settle the nerves and make them have to come out and not sit back

  3. Yes we got a bit of luck on Saturday, we could have been out and nothing to look forward to.
The remaing league games would have been played at Pittodrie with more seagulls than supporters, though the seagulls make more noise than the supportes do most games.
No Langfield saved us and determination from McArdle got us through. He did not stop and look for the referee to give us a penalty, just put the ball in the net which our forwards find hard to do.
We will need to play a lot better to win the replay as for a whlle we were under seige and not able to defend properly.
I think the mentality of our players is all wrong and Craig Brown needs to change that attitude.
Maybe to long under Jimmy Calderwood soft touch for some of them,
Then they rebel when Mark Mghee came in with the tougher training regime.
They need to look at themselves in the mirror and see themselves as the supporters see them. Mediocre players. The new players brought in are cheap basement bargain players, some are reasonable but the whole squad needs a wake up call of what their job is and what is expected of them. If they cannot deliver maybe they would be better going back to work in the real world.
So Wednesday is a big night for Aberdeen FC.
A semi Final against Celtic or ICT or the end of the season playing in front of the seagulls.
As you say what team will turn up on Wednesday night?
